When to get the FLU and COVID Vaccines

FLU VACCINES

This can be confusing right? When do I get the flu vaccine? or my Covid booster? The rule of thumb is…. don’t get the flu vaccine too early as you want it to work and cover you in the peak FLU season – which peaks usually around MAY to SEPTEMBER. The typical Flu vaccine lasts 4-6 months for most people – so to be covered from MAY to SEPTEMBER you need to think of having the vaccine closer to MAY or the end of MAY*. This does depend on a few variables and its always wise to chat to a GP or nurse immuniser about your individual needs ( eg travel or exposure or immune system deficits) It takes the average person 2 weeks to ensure you are covered by a vaccine and its antibodies*- so mid MAY is OK

Lister House Clinic offers appointments with a GP who will review your notes and ensure you are getting the right advice and can assist in vaccine questions

COVID VACCINES

If you are over 65 you can have your covid booster EVERY 6 MONTHS-so check out when you last had a does- Lister House Clinic can help you out*
